An unknown prospect before attending the Perfect Game Sunshine West Showcase in San Diego in early June, which earned him an invite to the PG National Showcase, Backstrom put on a show-stopping power display at the National. The big and smooth lefthanded swinger has foul pole to foul pole power and is also a surprisingly good athlete for his size, with 6.9 speed in the 60-yard dash and very soft and sure hands at first base on defense.
