2023 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Reece Newberry is a 2025 C/RHP/OF with a 6-0 210 lb. frame from Lilburn, GA who attends Providence Christian Academy. Features a physical build with present strength throughout. Ran a 7.23 60-yd dash. In the OF, he showed fundamental actions, getting low to the ball and moving with avg. quickness but fielding it clean and out front while working through reception well. Uses a smaller crow hop where he sets up some uphill shoulders and allow him to pull down and get downhill with his throws. It's a longer arm action that releases to a higher slot and got off accurate throws that flashed carry to the bag. Behind the plate, he showed above avg. catch throw ability with his clean and quick transfer and footwork out the crouch. At the plate, he sits in an a narrow/relaxed set up. Gets into a slight coil during his simple forward move as his hands load back with a higher elbow a slight barrel tip. The hands showed looseness and quickness in the swing itself throwing the barrel with above avg. bat speed for his level. Barrel worked on a slight uphill path where he would get extended and connect out front for quality pullside results. On the mound, he worked exclusively from the stretch, showing that same loose quick arm from the OF that got up to a higher 3/4 slot. He exhibited good use of his lower have working with quality tempo and speed throughout the delivery. He finished on-line and with a solid block at landing. He ran the fastball up to 85 that flashed some riding life over barrels. He mixed in a decent slider as well that showed some downward bite but that he gives up a tad with his body and arm speed.
