2021 Northwest Prospect Showcase
Jay Mentink is a 2023 OF/MIF with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Lake Tapps, WA who attends Sumner. High waist frame with space for added strength. From the outfield worked with a long and loose arm seeing throws that had carry to the bag. Actions to be strong in the outfield but will need to be more consistent in pulling through the ball for the actions to match the upside available. From the left side, the wide and simple stance sees him utilize a toe-turn to load and hits into the front side well. The strength in the frame comes out as the quick hands match with the rotational swing able to make contact out front for pullside lift. The bat-to-ball skills were inconsistent in batting practice but played better during games and show upside in the hit-tool long term. Named to Top Prospect List for Northwest Prospect showcase.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
