2003 Western Underclass Showcase
We liked Lum more and more as the games were played. He’s the type of player who performs better in game situations than in workouts from our first look. Maybe he just relaxed some and let his natural ability come through. Lum has good upper body strength and good lower body quickness, a good combination in a catcher. He has close to Major League average arm strength and gets his throws down to second base in as short as 1.99 in workouts and 2.05 in games. He hosed a couple of runners in games and was very accurate with his throws. Lum has a short compact swing that takes good advantage of his upper body strength. If there’s anything we’d like to see Lum do, it’s use his lower body more both offensively and defensively. He has strong, quick hips and he doesn’t use them as effectively as he could. He is a very good catching prospect.
