2022 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Donovan Newell is a 2024 OF/RHP, UT with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Aldie, VA who attends Lightridge High School. Medium frame with athletic build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.09 seconds. Hits from slightly open stance with high hands and back elbow, pull-side approach, shifts well into swing, lifts it pull-side and shows solid contact in that direction, quick stroke with projection. Worked out in the outfield, smooth footwork with good tempo to actions, developing hand actions, quick release with quality arm strength clocked up to 82 mph. Also pitched, lengthy offline arm stroke with crossfire stride, fastball worked 74-79 mph and attacked the zone with plane and angle, slider has good sweep to it, threw a lot of strikes. Very good student.
