2022 High School All State Select Championship (2023-2024 Grads)
Jon Shields is a 2023 BHP/RHP, LHP, 3B, OF with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from Magnolia, TX who attends St. John XXIII. A larger frame with a physical build. Has a higher-set waist on the frame. A primary pitcher, throwing from both sides, who uses a drop and drive delivery moving down the mound with the lower half. Has a coiled leg lift and then works with a shorter arm action. Fastball was up to 86 mph, working 82-84 mph as a right-handed arm. Was more over the top from the right side with a similar delivery as he showed from the left side. Created some downhill plane on his delivery. He held velocity well and mixed his pitches. Mostly left-handed during the outing with a slider and changeup showing. The changeup killed spin down to 1,284 RPMs with some fade to it. Worked out as an infielder who gets to the ball and had clean actions showing. Moved well laterally with arm speed present. Threw 87 mph across the diamond. Clean gather and funnel, getting the glove out front to get the job done during his round of defense. Switch-hitter. Only took reps as a left-handed hitter, he starts with a wider base, tight hands, and a high back elbow. Used a toe-tap trigger and was able to drive balls to all fields during his round of BP. Excellent student.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
