2018 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Michael Sclafani is a 2020 RHP/C, 3B with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Oak Brook, IL who attends Montini Catholic HS. Medium, lean build with time to get bigger. Primary right handed pitcher. Throws from a high three-quarter arm slot with a long arm action in the back. Lands slightly closed, generating some cross fire actions. Pauses at the top of delivery varying timing to the plate. Can get caught off-balance at the release point on occasion. Keeps the fastball to the arm side often, getting some downhill plane while also showing some running life late. Fastball lived in the mid 70's, topping out at 78 miles per hour. Showed a tight spinning 11/5 curveball with late bite that was commanded well, landing it for strikes. Off-speed pitch showed good potential as a solid secondary with maturity. Right handed hitter with a slightly crouched even stance. Uses a toe tap trigger at load. Stays balanced throughout swing with a good approach. Keeps the hands high with a high back elbow. Quick hands to the ball with good bat speed. Bottom half gets some linear shift into contact. Utilizes a direct, line drive path to contact, controlling the barrel very well. Has a gap-to-gap approach and makes consistent hard contact. Good student as well.
