Tate Shimao is a 2022 SS/RHP, MIF with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Honolulu, HI who attends Iolani. Athletic frame with room for added physical strength. Right handed hitter, hits from a slightly open stance with a short and quick swing with the ability to hit to all fields. Has good hitting attributes with bat speed & developing raw strength in swing. Very good runner, 6.64 runner in the sixty. Sound defensive actions with good first step quickness. Receives the ball well, has soft-sure hands. Throws have online carry & accuracy.
Has baseball instincts with good feel for playing the game. As RH pitcher has simple delivery, pitches from the 1B side of the rubber. Throws from 3/4 arm slot with good extension out front. FB has arm side run, tries to locate to both sides of the plate. Needs to refine FB command. Breaking ball has 3/4 slurve type action. Around the zone with all pitches, needs to continue to refine the quality of his strikes. Good student.
