Nicky Gaeto is a 2019 3B/ with a 6-0 155 lb. frame from Albuquerque, NM who attends Albuquerque Academy. Medium frame with a lean build. Projects for additional strength. Primary third baseman with deliberate footwork while working to and surrounding the baseball. Developing fluidity while funneling the baseball and created good momentum to the bag while working through. Flashed some arm strength at release producing accuracy carry across the infield. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Simple path to contact with a level, line drive barrel plane. Generated some lift through extension when attacking baseball out front. Stayed balanced throughout swing while employing a mid-field to pull side approach. Also pitched utilizing a simple side step to higher leg lift delivery. Hid the baseball well at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Stays on line through finish. Fastball flashed occasional downhill tilt through the zone in the low to upper 70's, topped at 78 miles per hour. Curveball had 12/6 shape with solid spin and good depth. Consistently worked ahead of hitters with fastball offering flashing the ability to consistently locate to each edge of the plate. Excellent student as well.
