Jose Oviedo is a 2017 LHP with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends Doral Academy Charter. Medium, athletic build with nice present strength proportioned throughout frame. Primary lefthanded pitcher, begins delivery with a leg raise up to belt, short stride down the mound but nice on line directionality, projects with additional lower half involved in drive. Short and compact arm action through the back working to an extended three-quarters arm slot, able to generate short running life to fastball, topped out at 79 mph, worked down in the zone well and got hitters to chase. Maintained velocity well and fields position, showed nice pick off move to first base. Slider is go-to pitch, can miss bats with it and get to righthanded hitters back foot. Up to 69 mph with short 2-8 shape, maintains slot well on pitch. Flashed a curveball with more vertical 1-7 shape at 66 mph.
