Appel is a 6-3, 180 lb senior right handed pitcher from Arizona. He has wide, square shoulders and projects well for future strength gains. Appel has a full delivery with a high leg kick and throws from a high ¾’s release point. He maintains his balance well and stays directional to the plate. Appel showed some arm strength on his fastball, pitching mostly at 82-83 mph. He threw about 90% fastballs, which didn’t give him much deception against the hitters. Appel threw a couple of 63 mph curveballs that he didn’t show much feel for and a few mid-70’s change ups. He’ll need to develop these pitches in the future to take advantage of the arm strength that he’s showing.
