Chris Black is a 2008 OF/P with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Mercer Island, WA, who attends Mercer Island HS. Black has a good frame that is lean and projectable with athleticism in his body. Defensively he has solid arm strength (82 mph) from the outfield with a quick release and good accuracy. He moves well in the outfield showing fluid movements, and he attacks the ball on the ground. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a very open stance with a quick load and an aggressive stride. Black has a short and compact swing with a quick bat. Once on the bases, Black shows instincts and speed that should allow him to steal bases and take the extra base. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with slinging arm action. He uses a big wind-up and stays inline to the plate. He gets tailing life on his fastball that topped out at 80 mph. Black has arm speed that helps to project more velocity in the future. He is an athletic player with upside.
