Chone James is a 2024 C/RHP with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Myrtle Beach, SC who attends Socastee. Recorded a 7.38 second sixty-yard dash time. Athletic, lean frame with room to physically mature. Primary catcher with a fundamentally sound defensive skill set, staying low to receive out in front and exhibits a lower mid-line transfer into the throwing motion. Stays compact with his footwork, gaining ground towards his target efficiently. Displayed loose, easy arm action and recorded arm strength up to 77 mph behind the plate during drills. Secondary right-handed pitcher that worked exclusively from the stretch in this outing. Compact delivery with good lower half movements down the slope and a quick arm. Fastball worked in the low-80s for most of his outing, topping out at 82 mph. Showed command to both sides of the plate and exhibits heavy life to the fastball when down in the zone, mixed in downer curveball with some depth to it. Intriguing upside on the mound that will continue to improve as he physically matures. Right-handed hitter that hits from a slightly closed stance with a hover trigger for timing. Incorporates rotational lower half movements and slightly uphill swing path to impact the baseball from gap-to-gap. Displayed effortless bat speed, stays on-plane and has feel for the barrel. Fundamentally sound prospect with upside on both sides of the ball. Good Student. Named to 2021 Perfect Game Main Event Showcase Top Prospect List.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
