Gavin Short is a 2024 3B/RHP, 2B, SS, MIF, IF, OF, UT with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Phoenix, AZ who attends Sunnyslope. Features a lean, athletic build. Ran a 7.33 60-yard dash. Worked out on the infield and in the outfield. Displayed sound footwork in the outfield with a good approach. Pulls down well out of an overhead slot. Creates quality carry on accurate throws. Threw 85 mph during workouts. Showed ability to move well on the dirt. Can make the route in play consistently. Arm strength translates on throws across. Right-handed hitter. Utilizes an even stance with a slightly narrow base. Swings on a lofted path with good extension out front. Swings with intent. Looks to drive the ball to the pullside. Has some power that way when squared up. Power should only continue to develop. Right-handed pitcher. Uses a semi-windup delivery into slight drop and drive mechanics down the mound. Throws from an overhead slot. Fastball sat 78-80 mph with some ride. Can get elevated whiffs with the offering. Pairs it with short slider at 63-67 mph. Flashed low-70’s changeup with some arm speed deception as well. Still developing consistent command and feel for pitch mix. Good student. Named to the National Underclass West Top Prospect List.
