Frame/Delivery/Arm Action

Bremner has some physicality with a large frame. He’s got a sturdy look to him with an imposing look on the mound. He has present strength throughout, but I would have to assume that there is not much left in the frame projection-wise, though he may make some refinements moving forward. Bremner works from the wind-up with a sidestep into the delivery, working into a knee-to-core leg lift. The leg lift has some deception to it; it’s a quicker move working down the hill. From the stretch, he has lower hands to start with an even setup, showing a quick leg lift to the core. He has a longer and full takeaway working through the back, hiding it well while working through a high three-quarters arm slot. He creates some good extension at release and has arm speed working through it. Overall, Bremner’s delivery projects well and he certainly looks the part on the mound.

Arsenal/Pitch Mix

Bremner works into the upper-90s on the fastball, and he has reached back for 98 mph in the past, usually settling in the mid-90s. The pitch has a good ride to it, and he has a good angle and plane to the pitch. He controls the arm-side third of the zone well and can command the fastball with electric command. His best off-speed pitch is certainly his changeup. The pitch works the low- to mid-80s with really good depth and tumble to it. He pronates hard and will throw the pitch to righties, proving to be a plus-pitch and one that he can throw to both righties/lefties and continuously pound the zone with it while also missing bats with it. The pitch tunnels with the fastball really well and causes problems for the opposition. He has a slider in the mix as well and the pitch works the mid-to upper-80s with a tight gyro-shape to it. Short with sweep, and it's a pitch he mixes in. It projects as the third-best pitch in the arsenal, though some believe it is a future-plus offering. He’s got three good pitches and can find ways to get the job done for his team.

Abilities/Traits To Like

Bremner has a really impressive delivery that projects well. He will be able to replicate the delivery and its projects for the next level. On top of that, he’s got two plus pitches presently, and some folks believe that he will be able to get a full arsenal of plus stuff down the line. The changeup is his best pitch in my book, given how easily he can pound the zone for called strikes or swings-and-misses and have success. The upper-90s fastball is obviously a weapon as well. UCSB has produced some quality arms over the years, and Bremner certainly looks the part as well, being another arm that projects well at the next level. Bremner’s profile has a lot to like moving forward; there’s no doubt about that.

“The Buzz”

Bremner has been near the top of this class since the inception of most draft boards and he has put together some really impressive stuff overall. He’s logged 34.0 innings so far this spring over 7 starts. He has issued just 9 walks to 37 punchouts. He shows an elite feel to command and is able to pound the zone with all of his pitches. He’s pitching to a 3.74 ERA over his 24 college starts and 43 total appearances and has been able to produce a proven track record over time.

Summation

Bremner is more than likely going to be a top-ten pick in this summer’s draft. There shouldn't be any doubt that he is going to be a top pick this year and he could easily be college RHSP1 off the board, being the second arm off the board behind Jamie Arnold. He’s a physically sturdy and strong right-hander up to 98 mph on the heater with a plus-fastball, plus-changeup, and tons of feel to command the zone. He’s made noise in his college career, built a good resume, and proven that he’s got the stuff to bring quality impact to a pro organization.
